Michael Johnston plays a music store clerk who uses a wish toy to make his friend Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, fall in love with him, with consequences that turn deadly. The film premiered in the Midnight Madness section at Toronto in September 2025 and opened in Japan on July 17, 2026.

Nikki rests her head on Bear's shoulder as they sit on a bed against striped wallpaper, both lit in acid green and pink. The tagline 「最愛」のあの子が、「災愛」に変わる (The girl I love most turns into a disastrous love) plays on the two readings of saiai, and the base line calls it 甘美で狂おしいネオ・ロマンティックホラー (a sweet and maddening neo-romantic horror).

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0707/3008/8703/files/obsession-2026-original-japanese-b2-poster-vintage-posters-701.jpg?v=1791469290
